The MLB team are a pretty diverse and creative bunch! We were talking recently on how business has changed, how we do business and how we market our business to ….well the world essentially. Anyhow, we looked back at some ‘great’ (so subjective!) marketing coups including:
- Virgin voyage : Promoting his new airline in 1987, old Rich crosses the Atlantic in a hot air balloon!
- Not gonna take it : Reeling from a frivolous lawsuit, a USA temp agency called Joblink run a mock PSA “Call us and we’ll sue someone for you.” Business is up 30% within a year!
- Bare essentials : The soapmakers at method introduce themselves in 2003 by placing booklets in a mag. Pretty conventional – except for the naked man on the cover!
- Experts love it : Magellen Systems challenge in 1989 is to get people to trust this ‘GPS’ thingy! They place a few free devices with some ‘tastemakers’, including a team of botanists exploring the Amazon…Articles and TV mentions follow…the rest as they say…
We could go on…Classic as they are it made us think more about the value of WOW! The question is…with the advent of social media etc..have you seen WOW lately…I mean something that promotes a brand/product/service that stands out from the crowd….think about it….
