At Media Lightbox, we have a number of Twitter fans in our ranks and I thought it would be interesting to take a look at our favourite tools when it comes to optimising our Tweets.
We have taken into consideration usability, popularity and tried to include a number of specialised tools that focus on certain aspects. But without further ado, let’s dive straight into it.
As always, we love to hear your opinions, so feel free to leave us a comment on the issue:
Mr Tweet – This tool recommends users to follow using social graphs, taking other users recommendations into consideration. Using the tagline, “Your Personal Twitter Assistant”, it aims to impress.
Twuffer – Allowing users to set up Tweets go live a later time. Good for the busier tweep’s out there or if you are a regular flier.
Twitpic– Seems like a basic tool but when you consider the fact that Twitter doesn’t directly host images, you would have to upload your photos onto the likes of Flickr first to get a URL without it.
Tweetie – Tweetie is an App available for Apple products only that has gathered quite a following. Offering a desktop based service, it allows the user to see conversations, replies and direct messages all in the one place. Also available as an iPhone App
Twitterific – This was one of the original iPhone Twitter tools and has remained a fan favourite over time. Although numerous tools have arrived that are potentially better, many prefer the UI it offers along with the fact that it is free!
TweetDeck – Another desktop based Twitter Tool, but one that can be used on either PC or Mac. Allowing integration with Facebook, Myspace, Google Buzz and Foursquare accounts, it really is a handy tool to have available.
FriendOrFollow – This allows you to find out if the people you follow are following you back and vice versa. It may seem like a basic task, but to individually go through and remove the deadweight racking up the number of people you follow, can prove a time consuming ordeal.
Twitterless – Also known as Chirpstats, this tool will send you regular stats on how many people have followed/unfollowed you in recent times. Let’s you keep up with how your account is progressing without having to check up on it yourself.
We Follow – Using “Tags”, this tool allows you to add yourself to the We Follow directory. It allows you to find similar Twitter Users with ease, and puts your username out there to be found in return.
Hootsuite – Hootsuite is a web based dashboard that allows integration with a whole host of other Social Networking sites such as Facebook, WordPress and Foursquare. A great tool for users and businesses in particular who have numerous social network accounts running simultaneously.
That’s our list, but leave us a comment and let us know if we have left any out that you use or have heard of.
