The Social Network: Fact or Fiction?
When we at Media Lightbox first heard that a movie was to be made about Social Networking giants Facebook, the first emotion we felt was one of surprise.
From a tech lover’s point of view, it is a fantastic idea but would it appeal to the wider audience? With a budget of just under $40million, a lot of money for a film without any special effects, much more is expected from it than just a step by step account of how Facebook came to be.
Right from the off, people close to Facebook and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg have stated that the film is flawed in its version of the story that has seen Facebook become one of the biggest websites in Internet history. Zuckerberg himself is on record as saying, “I just wished that nobody made a movie of me while I was still alive.” The movie portrays the 26-year-old’s decision to create Facebook as a result of a failed relationship which gives him the idea of creating a website to rate the attractiveness of female Harvard students.
The movie is sure to be interesting one way or another reeling in $23million in its first weekend in America. Whether or not the movie is based on facts however seems to be based on matter of opinion. No matter what we’re sure Zuckerberg won’t mind too much as Facebook continues to grow all the time and this latest piece of publicity can surely do it no harm.
