Facebook v Twitter: Which provides the greater Influence?
Another social media debate but one I’ve been thinking a lot about recently; Which of the two current social media power houses provide the greater influence?
At last count Facebook has more than 600m users, currently 3 times as much as Twitter who stand at around 200m. However it can still be argued that Twitter is the better marketing tool due to the ease of promoting a Tweet through the means of retweeting and the ability to follow or be followed by anyone.
Facebook is used in a more personal manner, and despite having a larger user base to appeal to it can be harder to gain fans as due to the security issues in place. With Twitter, your followers expect to hear a lot from you and posting several tweets in a day is more than acceptable. Doing the same on Facebook isn’t advised.
At Media Lightbox we’ve noticed how much easier it is to gain a following on Twitter as opposed to Facebook. If a tweet about one of our blog posts gets retweeted by one of our more influential followers, the amount of views it receives are positively affected. Followers on Facebook on the other hand are much less likely to share something which they have liked.
Does it come down to the type of company you are or the message you’re trying to put out there? Or is it simply a case of the more users to aim at the better? Let us know about your experiences with both Facebook and Twitter and which of the two you feel you’ve gained more from.
